READING QUIZZES

The teaching technique that the researcher use is reading quizzes. This technique is suitable to the level at the second grade of SMP Negeri 12 Kendari. It is a technique where teacher divide students in pairs and teachers ask each of student to write comprehension questions about a reading passages. When writing the questions, students have a chance to process the text by focusing on its main idea and details. In addition, they will learn new vocabulary. To facilitate quiz development, teachers can follow these steps:

a.       Teacher divide the class into pairs before the lesson. Then select two text (Set A and Set B)

b.      Distribute the text and ask students to read carefully.

c.       After students finish reading, teacher inform students to need understand the text throughly in order to write proper quetions. Allow them to use dictionaries if they want

d.      Teacher write example of True/false and Wh-questions on the board

e.       Informs students they need to write at least five questions (depending on the length of passage) about the text they have read. They can write two Wh-questions and True/False questions

f.        When the quetions are ready, ask students to exchange their text and quetions with a pair that worked with a different text

g.      Students exchange the question again and check their peers’ answer

h.      Allow students to give feedback to their peers.
