THE NEGATIVE INFLUENCES OF ANXIETY ON LEARNING LANGUAGE


A.    Background
Some people come across with many difficulties when learning a second language/ foreign language. It is believed that there are some emotional factors in foreign language learning which affect our learning abilities. These are mainly thought to be intelligence, motivation, attitudes and anxiety. Among these, anxiety stands out as one of the main influential factors for effective language learning. This foreign language anxiety is defined by some authors as “a feeling of tension,apprehension and nervousness associated with the situation of learning a foreign language.”
“Anxiety is a psychological construct, commonly described by psychologists as a state of apprehension, a vague fear that is only indirectly associated with an object” (Hilgard, Atkinson, & Atkinson, 1971 cited in Scovel, 1991: 18).
Initially, I would like to point out that a lot of researches were held in order to understand the reason of that anxiety.According to these studies, there are some internal and external factors which increase or decrease the level of anxiety one feels when learning a second language.There are also some personality traits which increase anxiety in language learning
There are many factors which influence anxiety level. For instance, instructional level of the student, the instructor, gender,age, native language,usage of foreign language, the length of time he/she studies the second language,final grades, previous experience, instructor-learner interaction, classroom procedures and so on.
According to Sieber e.al. (1977) anxiety is considered as one of the inhibiting factor in learning that can interfere with the performance of a person's cognitive functions, such as in concentrating, remembering, concept formation and problem solving. At the level of chronic and acute, symptoms of anxiety disorder can take the form of physical (somatic), such as: disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, frequent urination, headaches, heart problems, tightness in chest, shaking and even fainting.
Taking everything into account, this aspect emphasizes the importance of teacher’s role in language learning.It offers them many ways which can be applied in their classes. For example, first they can identify their students so that some individual differences will not be noticeable so much. They should make positive reinforcement by making positive comments and show specific consideration to those having fear of negative evaluation. They should bear in mind that there is not such a rule saying that an advanced or experienced student will not be anxious. For the above mentioned reasons, anyone can feel anxious due to internal and external factors.

B.     Problem Statement
Base on the statement obove, the writer formulates a question “What is the negative impact of anxiety on learning language and what is that solutions?”

C.    Purposes
In relating to the problem statement above, the purposes is to find out the impact of anxiety that will be find by the studen on the learning language.

When the writer analysis the problem about The negative influences of anxiety on learning language, so we find out some negative influences of it, they are:
a.       Less of language knowladge they get
b.      Decrease the students achievement
c.       Unwilling to learning language
d.      Will be appear the leziness come to the school/Campus
If the sdudents find the anxiety on learning language process, so the teacher shoud be overcome this problem with done some aproach, for example, ask the student why do they feel anxious and give them the motivation to overcome their anxiety. In other hand, the parents have also an important role in learning language process





CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
A.    Conclution
Base on the working through above, we can get a conclution that anxiety  is a psychological construct, commonly described by psychologists as a state of apprehension, a vague fear that is only indirectly associated with an object. There are many factors which influence anxiety level. For instance, instructional level of the student, the instructor, gender,age, native language,usage of foreign language, the length of time he/she studies the second language,final grades, previous experience, instructor-learner interaction, classroom procedures and so on. And the negative impact of anxiety on learning language is Less of language knowladge they get, Decrease the students achievement, Unwilling to learning language, Will be appear the leziness come to the school/Campus.

B.     Suggestion
In this paper, the writers suggest to teacher to:
1.      Know the students ability on learning language (foreign language)
2.      Consecious of the students’ anxiaty every learning language as we know that language have many rules, specially foreign/second language
3.      Do the Psycology approch for the students who feel anxiaty on learning language.

1.       Article
Should student take a part time jobs?
Workin g and going to school is challenging, it can be a experience appreciation,if you use some foresight.however, you must better think a hundred before you decide to take a part time job.
There are factored that should be in the decision to take a part time job.
On the negatif side,consequently ,many studing who part time file perform at their on home work and on examination. And on the positive side,a part time job helps students to support day to day living expenses and can work experiences and develop skills.

2.      Burning News
PKS will not follow in case of Nunung

 The party of justice welfare promised will not intervention in processing of low to Nunung Nurbaeti, which is handle by KPK ,wife of Adang member of PKS. But ,PKS will support the morality to Adang as a member of DPR “ surely, giving a disaster of her, PKS will not intervention law as long as a processing”. Said the presentative leader of comission III PKS Nasir in DPR ,Jakarta, Monday (12/12)

3.       The kinds of problem
a)      The Corruption
-          Corruption is misappropriation or embezzlement of state fund or company as the place of some working for personal gain or any other person.
-          The problem statement of corruption in Indonesia developing systematically for many people corruption is no longer a violation of law,but merely habit,in all comparative studies of corruption across countries, Indonesia has always ranked lowest.
-          Solution of corruption is prevention of self and family from acts of corruption ,and a leader should be someone have commitment to prevent themselves from corruption either violent or verbally.
-          Conclusion: corruption  is bad behavior that is not legal and no fair to enrich themselves and considered from the point where it is still a gross.
b)      The Education
-          Education is the delivery of knowledge,skill,information from teachers to students.
-          There are many different education in Indonesia and the other country ,especially Indonesia and Malaysia.Education in Indonesia are run either by the government and privately like as private school.Whereas ,education in Malaysia obtained from the multilingual public school system ,which provide free education for all malaysia or private school or through homeschooling.
-          Conclusion: education is very important for all people to growing and developing potentials character.

c)       The Global Warming
-          Global warming is when the temperature rises it happen when greenhouse  gases,carbon dioxide,water vapor,trap heat and light from the sun the earth atmosphere, which the increase the temparature.
-          The effect: make the sea rise and when the sea rises,the  water covers many low land island ,the water covers the plants and people some of them die.
-          Solution: we are doing many things to try stop global warming.one of them more careful to use the energy such us TV,computer and be try to reduce to use the chickle then planting the trees.
-          Conclution: global warming is very dangerous for our earth and it has the negative effect the people ,animals and plants.So that we must keep our circle to stop the global warming.
d)      The Politics
-          Politics is a actitivity in a system politicies or country that concern aim determination process from system and how carry out the aim.
-          The political problems in Indonesia's largest like as:Leadership crisis, famines and food crises, natural disasters, high price of food, The narrowness of job opportunities, education systems, fuel management, Poverty, Corruption, Economic.
·         Masalah terbesar  di indonesia seperti: Krisis kepemimpinan,Kelaparan dan krisis pangan,Bencana alam,  Mahalnya harga pangan, Sempitnya lapangan kerja, Sistem pendidikan, Pengelolaan BBM, Kemiskinan, Korupsi,Ekonomi

Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing


How to develop the four language skills ( Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing )
a)      Recognizing a lot of them
b)      Recognizing the weakness
c)      Solving the problem
d)      Identify activities
e)      Design activities
f)       Targeting the result.

ANSWER
1.         Listening
a)      Listening is the active process of receiving and responding to spoken and sometimes unspoken message.
b)      The weakness of  listening can get very boring especially when the person is going on with a story.
c)      The problem solving ,the teacher can give the students feedback method .like the student have listen ,give them question about the material and when they difficulty understand, give them key words.
d)      The activity to improve the listening skill is give the interested material to the students.
e)      Using the song in listening skill, we ask the students to listen to the song carefully and then complete the missing words.
f)       The result than can be achiev, the students will be more interested in listening and easy to understand the meaning.

2.                  Speaking
a)      Speaking is to express or communicate opinions,feeling,ideas,etc.by or as talking and involves the activities in the part of the speaker as psychological ( articulator ) and physical ( acoustic ) stages.
b)      The weakness of speaking, one of the weakness of the speaking is maybe someone feel less of confidence.
c)      The problem solving of this problem is practice and practice will help to overcome ,also try getting to first spak in front or three or four other.
d)      The activity improving speaking skill is take a lot of classroom practice , motivation to speak and skill.
e)       Using game in learning process, students is work in pairs, then one student my prentend to be a famous person demonstrating some characteristic features of that person.It may be  physical approach, dress and posture. Other student  are required to guess who that person is by asking questions such as : Are you  a live? Are you a movie actor ? Are you general?
f)       The result that will be achieve from this activity  is to get the students speak and produce the sentences in order to be able to communicate each other.


  
3.                  Reading
a)      Reading is a a way to get information from something ,that was written.Reading involves the introduction of symbols that make a language.
b)      The weakness of reading are:
-          We have difficulty understanding the important ideas in reading passage
-          Difficulty with basic reading skill such as word recognotion.
-          Reading is slow and deliberate.
c)      The problem solving of these problem we must have a certain time to read the book and read intensively.
d)      The activity to improve the reading skill is give the interested material to the students or ask the students to read what kinds of books they like to read.
e)      Using the short story of fairy tale to the students for reading class, students work in  pairs, then students read the story and answer the question about the story and ask the students to retell that story.
f)       The result that will be achieve from this activity are students more interested in reading and the students can understanding with the passage which they have been read.

4.                  Writing
a)      Writing is a methode  of  representing language in visual or tactile form .writing system use set of osymbols to represent the sound of speech ,and may also have symbols for such things as punctuation and numerals.
b)      The weakness of writing is the use of punctuation ,if someone don’t know about punctuation he/she may be confused what punctuation must used.
c)      The problems solving of this problem we must learn and reading the book about punctuation much more.
d)      The activity to improve writing skill is give the interested material to write or ask the student to write their experience such as unforgettable experience.
e)      Using the picture,we give the students the picture that consist of several part for example five part, then the students write a paragraph based on the picture
f)       The result that will be achieve from this activity the students become interest in writing and the students can write paragraph  correctly.
