Many method or technique we can apply in our
class as a teacher but actually, the important is not only about a method we
also must deals with learners. How to treat with learners and how we arrange
the class. The first thing that we can do is knowing the characteristic of
learners because young, adolescent and adult learners have different
characters. In the following paragraph, the writer will be elaborate
respectively the characteristic of learners.
The first state is young learners, when we are
a teacher we should know the characteristic of children that we taught. Young
learners (9-10 years old), their age is fleibles. They have own special
characteristics that differentiate them from the adolescent and adult learners.
Generally, children are already very good in interpreting meaning without
necessarily understanding the individual word, its mean that they respond to
meaning even if they do not understand individual words. Children have a ready
imagination, children words are full of imagination and fantasy, and it is more
than simply matter the enjoyment because they learn what they see. They need to
be fun interesting and eciting as possible by setting up the interesting
activities because they get easily bored.
The second state is adolescent (junior high
school), At this state, in my opinion these characteristics make the parents
confuse because they have labile emotions. They can shift moods rapidly,
vacillating between happiness and distress, self confidence and worry. Sometimes
we can feel they have comple socials interactions such as conflicts with
friends, even their parents, and school pressure. Adolescent is a time when
teenagers begin to eplore their personal identities. That is why to feel good
about themselves and values. During this developmental period, teenagers engage
in a process of searching for where they fit in with peers and society at large
and associate with various peer groups.
The last state is adults. Many adults prefer
to learning by eperience so they have high epectations. They want to be taught
about things that will be useful to their work. According to Malcolm Knowles
proposes assumptions about adults
learner that adults are motivated to learn when they perceive that they have a
need to learn. They view themselves as
capable of making decisions, taking responsibility for the consequences of
choices, and being able to manage their own lives. They tend to be more
disciplined and they are often prepared to struggle on despite boredom. Many
adults worry that their intellectual powers may be diminishing with age. In
addition, They are concerned to keep their creative powers alive, to maintain a
sense of generativity.
Having the writer elaborate each level so, the
teacher should be observe their learners is important during selection a method
or technique who they will taught precisely because they influence how students
approach learning and learning strategies that they choose to use.
