A. Synopsis

This episode begins with Jay invites his family to watching a football game. Before it begins, Manny, the son from Gloria and Gloria is jay’s young wife. Manny fights with the youngest son from Claire and Phil, his named Luke while luke is a grandson from jay. Manny and Luke fights at school. Then, headmaster call each  of their parents. Their mother, Gloria and Claire defend their son.

When the all family including the son from jay, Mitchell and his partner, Cameron come in Jay’s home. Gloria and Claire still quarrel. Gloria feels does not liked from Claire. Fortunately, Claire concede and asking forgive. After that, They give hugs.

A few minutes later,  Manny and Luke make  a way.  Luke said Manny’s mother its mean that Gloria is  a Gold Digger. Gloria getting anger. Luke continue if his mother its mean that Claire who said it when she said in a car, at christmas, and the mexican restaurant. Gloria really angry to hear that and they are fighting.

Phil comes to solve problem but Gloria does not accept phil’s suggestion. Gloria share about herself that she is not gold digger and prove it to Phil. Claire comes in Gloria’s room. She asking sorry about that and explain it was year ago. Claire will be accept her forgive but claire must go jump in the pool with her clothes. All people surprise that claire will go jump in the pool. They watch her. Then, Jay pulls Gloria until all family in the pool. They are laughing of each other. After that, only Jay and Cameron who continue to watching a football game. Finally, Mitchell  feels uncomfortable with Jay and cameron’s behaviour.

B. Elements of Narrative

1.      Story

In element of story, There are diagetic elements in this episode such as all the narrative events that are explicitly presented on the screen plus. One of example where the phil question may be indication. "is he michael scott without the tie? Or is he the breakout star of this show? Here’s a test for you". When Gloria was dramatically asking what she needed to take off in order to prove that she’s not just interested in Jay’s money "should I take off these earrings? This bracelet? This dress?" and phil kept quiet instead of joining in the chorus of "no!" For the last item we can stipulate that we all saw that coming.

2.      Order

In this episode is chronological order because it begins when jay invites his family to watching a football game in his house until the main storyline about Gloria an Claire’s distrust of each other. It starts with Manny and Luke fighting at school over Manny calling Luke his nephew (technically true!), leading to the parents of each kid driving home talking about what bad parents the others are. Chronologically, it ends when just the Cam and Jay watch football.
So, it is chronological.

3.      Events

I think this episode relate with the story because all scene is important to support the story and how the family incircuit with the story. It tells one scene in every different family but it is still relation with the storyline.

4.      Duration

a)      Story duration
This event occur for 1 day. From the morning until night. I know that’s the morning when it starts with jay’s family breakfast and I know that’s the night when they want to watch claire go jump in the pool and the pool in outside. It shows the night.
b)      Plot Duration
I think it is more than 45 minutes but;
c)      Screen Duration
Actually, In Screen duration only 20 minutes past 43 seconds.

5.      Suspense VS Surprise

In this episode, there is suspense when claire will accept Gloria’s challenge to go jump in the pool as an asking forgive. In other side, there also surprise, first, when Manny and luke said coal digger and they heard it wrong. It is mean that gold digger. Because of that, Gloria and Claire are fighting again. Second, when Jay pulls Gloria in the pool and the end is all family in the pool. They are laughing together.

6.      Repetition

In this episode, their clothes always appear where they are in every place.

6.      Luke    : a little kid who always curious about something. It show when their parents said some people ask "why" but Luke ask "why not". He is like a little Einstein.

There are many place in this episode, the beginning story in Jay’s house, then, in Phil’s house and continue in Mitchell’s house. Back again in Phil’s house after that, in school. And then, in a car, after in a car, back in Mitchell’s house and the last is in jay’s house.

9.  Narration and Narrators

In this episode, there is direct-adress narration. When the characters (Jay, Phil, Mitchell and Cameron) breaks the  assumed barrier between the characters on the screen and the audience to adress to audience directly. They tell to audience how the other characters behaviour. There are four narrators in this episode. The first narrator are Jay and Claire tell about their son, Luke.
